Priyanka Chopra is in all awe of Kangana Ranaut and she thinks that both of them are similar on many levels.

In a recent interaction with Times of India, Priyanka Chopra expressed her liking for Kangana and spoke about their mutual love. The actor said, “Kangana Ranaut and Vidya Balan are two actresses who take the bar and raise it higher. I am so proud of Kangana and admire her. Also today, it's kudos to the audience, who are rejecting rubbish and want to clearly see content-driven cinema, be it with an actor or actress.”

Both the actors have struggled hard and made a niche of their own in this industry. Talking about fighting against the odds, Priyanka said, “Both she and I have been denied for a very long time though in different ways. We strangely have this mutual love for each other as we both fight the odds and we both don't show it. Neither does she talk about it nor do I and we just let our work speak for ourselves. We both know that you can't deny our talent.”

Priyanka Chopra had her married life mapped out at the tender age of 12. And now 20 years later, she feels she is a little old-fashioned when it comes to marriage.

In an interview with Times of India, PeeCee was quizzed about marriage and here’s what she said.

“Marriage figured in my life since I was 12. I believe marriages are made in heaven. But to get married, I need to be in love with a person. I am a little old fashioned and believe in the institution and certification of marriage and believe in the respectability that comes with being married to the person you love.”

She feels if she loves someone, marriage would be an important criterion and she would certainly insist on getting married.

Well! We just hope you find your perfect Prince soon, PeeCee!

The Curvy Queens of Bollywood!

$
0
0

Beauty comes in various shapes and sizes. From supermodels to belly dancers, all of these women are smolderingly hot in their very own ways. All body shapes can be beautiful but curves in the right places have been desired by many since the ancient times. While the west has vivacious, voluptuous vixens like Kelly Brook, Christina Hendricks, Kat Dennings, Beyonce and Sofia Vergara, Bollywood doesn't fall behind in the curves department too.

Here are some of the names that comes to our mind when we think about curves:

Katrina Kaif

Katrina's curves have been adored since the time she has joined Bollywood. She has curves in all the right places, and has the classical hourglass figure. Women with an hourglass figure tend to have gently strong shoulders and hips of an equal curvaceous presence, their waist has to be at least 8 inches smaller than their hips, bust and shoulders. The fun part with this body shape is that even if they gain a little bit weight their fat is almost equally distributed, making them look like an hourglass nevertheless! Katrina's tall figure complements her curves really well.

Sunny Leone

Just like Katrina Kaif, Sunny Leone can also be classified as an hourglass figure. Although Sunny Leone had breast implants in the past, there is no denying that she has a voluptuous figure with beautiful ratios naturally!

Parineeti Chopra

Parineeti Chopra's weight has been fluctuating recently. Nevertheless, her body shape can be classified as pear shaped. The pear-shaped woman carries most of her body fat around the hips and thighs. She will generally have a smaller upper body with shoulders narrower than her hips. The pretty pear can have a relatively slender waist, but it is less noticeable due to narrower shoulders and larger hips.

Sonakshi Sinha

There is absolutely no denying that Sonakshi Sinha is a gorgeous woman with stunning eyes! Sonakshi's body type can be classified as a Lollipop. This body type has large shoulders and back with "little" waist definition. Women with such bodies can have fabulous and shapely legs if toned.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Aishwarya Rai's curves in her various Cannes avatars deserves a special mention as she wowed many around the world.

The Divas

Curvalicious!Curvalicious!

And now that we are talking about curves, who can miss out the real Curve Queens? Our very own classic sexy sirens- Zeenat Aman and Parveen Babi. The two women with the perfect ratios and the ever desired hourglass figure. Their smoldering look has crazed many, and are still admired by billions in India.

Priyanka Chopra during her Dostana days had a petite hourglass figure with a small frame which is absolutely breathtaking and is the perfect beach body. Bipasha Basu is toned and curvy at the same time, which takes up a lot of energy, perfect exercises and dieting. Huma Qureshi and Kareena Kapoor have always been voluptuous and sexy!

Exclusive: A candid chat with Ranveer and Priyanka on their movies, friendship and more!

$

Amidst the extensive, whirlwind promotions of ‘Dil Dhadhakne Do’, the brother sister duo at the heart of this family drama have said all there is to say about each other! Yet when you ride in a car with them to yet another event for a quick chat, you can’t miss the ‘mutual admiration club’ (in Pee Cee’s words) that Ranveer Singh & Priyanka Chopra share. While calling their personal bond ‘dysfunctional’ and ‘weird’, both actors are quick to state what they admire in each other: Priyanka’s natural fitness and ability to stay on top of her multiple projects wins Ranveer over. As for Pee Cee, she finds Ranveer easy going & committed.

In Zoya Akhtar’s lavish ensemble piece, they play super rich brother-sister who have to make choices (of marriage or divorce alternately) against their desires. In real life though, their families are completely opposite. They acknowledge the key role that parental support has played in molding their careers so far.

Priyanka said, “Actually with me not at all; my family really supported me with whatever I wanted to do or whenever I wanted to do it. At 12 years I decided that I wanted to stay back and study in America. My parents explained the pros and cons of that and let me take my own decision. I think that’s why I have been able to stay back and make my choices. With a lot of people that doesn’t happen, and everyone comes under pressure. That’s what ‘Dil Dhadhakne Do’ is all about. Often people come under pressure and do what they are expected to do; not because they want to do that but because that’s how something is done. “

Ranveer added, “My parents never imposed any kind of direction on me. Like Kabeer Mehra, I have led a sheltered life, but I have been allowed to choose for myself. At a very young age, I realized that I was not cut out to be a businessman, and in my seventh standard itself, I told my dad that I wouldn’t want to work in the family business. My parents always taught me that you will only do your best when you do something that you love. So in my tenth standard, when I chose not to become an actor and instead, focus on advertising – that was a decision they supported. But when I decided to switch back to acting after working in advertising that was also a choice I made. My father had actually invested a huge amount of money in getting me a foreign education; at the time when I decided that I want to abandon it and come back to Mumbai and become an actor. Not once did he say why I would want to do that, instead, he only insisted that I complete my education. “

Promoting a big film is a massive task, with repetitive interviews & multiple public appearances. The duo has also been shooting nights for their Sanjay Leela Bhansali magnum opus, ‘Bajirao Mastani’. Ask them about time management, and out comes a lesson in multi-tasking. Says Priyanka, We divided and ruled (Ranveer Laughs); Ranveer went ahead and promoted DDD while I held base; I shot nights for ‘Bajirao Mastani’ for we are working to a very tight schedule. Then I came & joined the promotions of DDD while I also worked on this last schedule for the film. You know, life is demanding. But I really am of the belief that promises need to be kept, and commitments need to be upheld. So if I have made these promises then I believe it’s my job to do them well. If I am spreading myself thin doing that, then maybe it’s my fault that I take on all that I do. It gets physically exhausting sometimes (smiles tiredly), but I am blessed to have the job I have! So many people want to be in this position. So I never take it for granted even for a moment.

Ranveer returned to the opulent ‘Bajirao Mastani’ shoot after nursing a shoulder injury that put him out of action for nearly a month. His second innings proved challenging. He says, “Bajirao Mastani is a really difficult film to shoot. It is very challenging to work with Mr Sanjay Bhansali and to adapt to his style of shooting a film. In fact, he is the only person that I know that goes about shooting scenes the way he does. You don’t go on set to execute; you go on set to create as a collaborator with Mr Bhansali. What that means is that the challenge is tenfold. You know whatever is being created has a lot of you in it. That’s actually the great thing about him. But of course, the flip side of that is that you have to stay on your toes on the film set every day! Like, you know a film like ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’, was an easy shooting experience. It is a casual, conversational film that has a very candid style; it’s like two people chatting on a couch. But Mr Bhansali’s films are very different; they are very emotionally charged; he demands a lot from his actors. And why not? He brings out the best from any performer. But in order to summarize it, that is Mr Bhansali.

Priyanka will soon be dividing her time between the first season of Quantico, a TV series for ABC networks in the USA. Calling this project a personal win, she said, “ It’s my first TV experience but it’s an extremely exciting time for me. When I was in school in America, I always saw that we as Indians were put in a box. The girls were always beautiful princesses who ride an elephant and can charm anyone and the boys are always geeks and nerds who talk with a funny accent (Ranveer’s muffled laughter provides requisite background sound effect). When I went to school there I faced some racism too, not from everyone but from some people. Janine Stevens, I thank you, for bullying me so much that I returned to India! I thank you for my career; I owe that to you (laughs). For me, being out of the stereotype, and to not be reduced to an inconsequential part of a programme, for me is a personal win against thinking that Indian talent is just meant for that. I think Indian talent should be taken seriously. I am not some messiah of Indian talent, I just happened to be given that opportunity and I am grateful that I got to do this on my terms.”

In India, Priyanka will be seen in Gangajal 2, a Prakash Jha film. She said, “ I am going to finish Gangajal 2 before I go in July for Quantico (Ranveer titters); Pee Cee pauses and asks, “What are you laughing about?” Ranveer ‘Quantico’ (imitating an American twang); Priyanka coolly proceeds, “I finish that and then I return in between to finish the last schedule of ‘Bajirao Mastani’.

I think I feel happiest & proudest of the fact that people love my work and continue to support me; and they give me an opportunity to entertain them. And I would like to keep entertaining them for as long as they watch me. I am an achiever & an entertainer, and this happened to me by chance. I was also a stereotype who wanted to become an engineer by the way (smiles). I also don’t take it all very seriously for art is subjective. But I feel happy that my abilities have brought me here, and destiny has led me to this and I am not going to fight the tide.”

As the ride comes to an end, I ask Ranveer Singh what the current crop of upcoming stars feel about the blockbusters with their female contemporaries in leading roles; be it ‘Piku’, ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’, ‘Queen’ or a ‘Mary Kom’. Confidently, the actor states, “I am proud that these films have done so well; it just goes on to show that good content works. I don’t even know if we should call these women oriented films.” Priyanka rejoins, “I hate that term! We don’t call a hero’s film a men oriented film,” and Ranveer nods.

And you see that for once, these two stars genuinely share a bond of admiration & affection. Here’s hoping it works magic onscreen this Friday.

I Don’t Mind Playing Ranveer’s & Priyanka’s Dad: Anil Kapoor

$

0

For the first time in his career Anil Kapoor plays a patriarch with grey hair. That’s right. Anil Kapoor plays father to Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra in Zoya Akhtar’s Dil Dhadkne Do. Apparently, Zoya had to seek the help of Aamir Khan to convince Anil.

Laughs Anil, “Not only Aamir. Javed Saab(Zoya’s father Javed Akhtar), Farhan amd Ranveer, and my son Harsh they all convinced me to do the part. Playing Dad is not a problem. Haven’t I played father to grownup kids in my series 24? I was only hesitating because in India a father’s role is perceived in a particular way. Why would I have any reservations about playing Ranveer’s and Priyanka’s dad when I’ve a grownup son and daughters in real life? Besides, the guy I am playing in Dil Dhadkane Do is younger than me. He’s around 52. I am 58 .”

Anil was hesitant to play the patriarch in Zoya’s film only because dads in our movies are perceived in a particular way. “Marlon Brando played father to James Caan and Al Pacino in The Godfather. But no one thought of it as father’s role per se. Playing a father has never been a problem for me.20 Years back I was going to play Aamir and Saif’s father in Yash Chopra’s Parampara. That didn’t work out. Over here unless it is Bachchan Saab, the dad is a crashing bore in Bollywood movies. Thankfully, my character in Dil Dhadkne Do is anything but a bore. I wish I was half as interesting as him in real
life.”

It was finally the role that attracted Anil. “I realized it was a father like no other. My character is really physically fit in spite of being the father of two grownups. In fact, there was a scene in the screenplay that Zoya didn’t shoot where I teach yoga to all the ladies on the ship. Zoya wanted me to sport flowing hair so that it would blow against the breeze when it flew. She has made me wear sleeveless tee-shirts for the first time on screen. If I may say so myself, I play the coolest dad. And I am glad I agreed to come on board.”

Anil says he had a blast shooting for Zoya. “I’ve been closely associated with Zoya’s family from the time Zoya and Farhan’s mom(Honey Irani) wrote Lamhe in which I played an aging and sexy dad like the one in Dil Dhadkne Do. Later I played the lead in Honey’s directorial Armaaan. The two families have always been closely associated.”

Anil is also very close to Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi. “Javed Saab watched over Dil Dhadakne Do. We constantly felt his presence. It was very reassuring.”

After clinching a beauty crown, Priyanka Chopra went on to win hearts with her acting prowess and after reigning on the big screen, she explored the world of music. Now, the actress has set her eyes on becoming a superwoman through action scenes in her films.

The actress, who has showcased her strength and power through a bevy of films like "Mary Kom", "Don" and "Drona", says she tries to fulfil her secret desire of being a superwoman through action scenes.

She is gearing up for an action packed project of director Pradeep Sarkar. The actress executed a perfect three-point-landing after jumping off a tree during one of her action sequences. That left the whole crew impressed.

"My inherent tomboy persona comes out everytime I do an action sequence and I channelled all my secret desire of being a superhero into this sequence. My director was happy, the crew was happy…so I can safely say, I got it done," Priyanka said in a statement.

Sarkar is known for bringing strong female characters in his cinema with films like "Parineeta" and "Mardaani". Priyanka says teaming up with Sarkar has made her job as an actor easy.

"It's always exciting to work with creative personalities like Dada (Sarkar), who have a vision and such clarity that it makes my job easier. It was super fun doing this with him," she said.

All the information about the project is shrouded in secrecy. Without divulging much about the project, Priyanka said: "Patience… all will be revealed soon enough."

Meanwhile, the actress will be seen in Zoya Akhtar's multi-starrer "Dil Dhadakne Do", which also stars Farhan Akhtar, Anil Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma and Shefali Shah. It will release on Friday.

Audience demand has improved film content: Priyanka

$

Bollywood has grown over the years from just being a bank of masala films. Realistic films are being made, actresses are no longer mere eye-candies and roles are performance-oriented. National Award winning actress Priyanka Chopra says it's a result of the demand and supply chain.

"I believe wherever there is demand, there will be supply. Our audience now has access to global cinema. We're no longer living in a bubble. Demand has transformed the audience, they are demanding better content because they feel they're educated and can understand various kinds of films," Priyanka told IANS.

"That is why content-driven films are made. The film industry is a mirror of what the audience wants to see," she said on the sidelines of a promotional event for her forthcoming film "Dil Dhadakne Do".

The success of female-oriented films "Piku" and "Tanu Weds Manu Returns" are an example of the changing scene in Hindi cinema.

Will Dil Dhadakne Do Do A Hat Trick?

$
0
0

Would this week’s eagerly awaited film Zoya Akhtar’s Dil Dhadakne Do(DDD) complete a hat trick of out-of-the-box successes within a month, after Shoojit Sircar’s Piku and Aanand L Rai’s Tanu Weds Manu Returns?

Trade experts seem to think Zoya’s film has the potential to crack the boxoffice code a third time.

Says Taran Adarsh, “Piku, Tanu Weds Manu Returns and now Dil Dhadakne Do have one trait in common: they focus on human relationships in a thoroughly entertaining style.”

Taran is all praise for Zoya’s film. “DDD is an extremely well-made film. I genuinely feel very directors can tackle relationships with as much sensitivity as Zoya Akhtar.”

Says trade expert Amod Mehra, “Yes, DDD will definitely complete the hat-trick. The buzz is fantastic and the opening will be big. I expect a 50-60 crore weekend.”

Says Atul Mohan, “The trade is hoping DDD would be a hit, and so am I. It looks so fresh and different that we expect it to complete a hat-trick of out-of-the-box successes. It has beautiful locales, a stunning ensemble cast. The banner, the timing of release, the look are all perfect so far. Fingers crossed.”

However, film critic Raja Sen feels the current success streak at the boxoffice is not only about one film. “Other than Gabbar Is Back, all the hits this year have been offbeat: from Badlapur to NH10 to Piku. It just shows the audience is hungry for solid storytelling.”
